What Active Safety Features Does Honda Have?

Have you ever had a “the future is now” moment? Maybe it was when you got your first smartphone, or first activated a social media account. Either way, there are certain technologies that feel significantly more important when considered in terms of how they will affect the future vs how they are when they drop.

Active safety and driver-assist features are some of these futuristic technologies.

These technologies use sensors, cameras and radar to detect hazards and maintain a safe path of travel for your properly-equipped Honda vehicle. By interfacing with crucial automotive systems, like braking, acceleration and more, these technologies can turn the input which they can process in milliseconds and turn it into action to prevent, or minimize the severity of, a collision.

It just so happens, that Honda has a robust and complete set of active safety and driver-assist features that has the power to save lives.

What is the Name of Honda’s Active Safety Feature Suite?

The name given to the suite of active safety and driver-assist features found on new Honda vehicles is Honda Sensing®. The name perfectly describes the chief function of this suite which is to add a 6th sense to your driving experience.

Which Features are Included with Honda Sensing®?

Honda Sensing® includes several features that connect onboard sensors, capable of receiving and processing data in milliseconds, to the various systems on your Honda-Sensing®-equipped vehicle.

Among the included features are the following:

  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) – Monitors and adjust steering to keep your vehicle in the center of the lane of traffic – safely, where it should be. *
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) – Turning off your cruise control is a hassle and can be dangerous. With ACC, you just set it and forget it. ACC will maintain a safe following distance with the vehicles in front of you by adjusting your cruising speed based on the traffic in front of you. **
  • Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM) – Like LKAS, RDM is able to detect the edge of the lane and the road and adjusts both steering and braking on your Honda-Sensing®-equipped vehicle if you cross it without signaling.
  • Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) – If an object or vehicle enters your path of travel and a collision appears imminent, CMBS™ will apply braking pressure to stop your vehicle and prevent, or minimize the severity of, the collision. ***
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW) – Issues a warning before your Honda-Sensing®-equipped vehicle crosses the lane markers. ****
  • Forward Collision Warning (FCW) – Alerts you to a potential forward collision with audio and visual interjections.
  • Honda LaneWatch™ - Specially-equipped 2017 and 2018 Honda vehicles have this important feature. Signaling right activates a camera on your side-view mirror and shows you what’s in your blind zone on the Display Audio Touch-Screen. *****
  • Blind Spot Information System – Activating your turn signal with a vehicle in your blind spot will notify you of your inability to merge until the vehicle is out of your blind spot and the path clear for your merging. ******
  • Cross Traffic Monitor – Backing up into a lane of perpendicular traffic can be dangerous without solid vision. With special 2017 and 2018 Honda-Sensing®-equipped vehicles, your vehicle will alert you to a vehicle heading in your direction in that lane of traffic. *******
  • Auto High-Beam Headlights – Like adjusting your cruise control is just an inconvenient as it is unsafe, so is turning your high-beam headlights on and off when traveling at night. With special Honda-Sensing®-equipped 2017 and 2018 vehicles, your headlights will change between high and low beams when another vehicle is detected. ********

Enjoy a Safe and Technology-Filled Experience in Your New Honda Vehicle

Regularly on the cutting edge of both design and technology, Honda vehicles give you plenty of technology for both entertainment and safety purposes. 2018 Honda vehicles like the 2018 Honda Accord include Honda Sensing® features as a standard inclusion across trim levels.

* LKAS only assists driver in maintaining proper lane position when lane markings are identified without a turn signal in use and can only apply mild steering torque to assist. LKAS may not detect all lane markings; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and road condition. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

**Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and other factors. ACC should not be used in heavy traffic, poor weather or on winding roads. ACC only includes a limited braking function; driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

***CMBS cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and other factors. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

****LDW only alerts drivers when lane drift is detected without a turn signal in use. LDW may not detect all lane markings or lane departures; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and road condition. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

*****Display accuracy will vary based on weather, size of object and speed, and the display may not show all relevant traffic. The display is not a substitute for your own direct visual assessment of traffic conditions before changing lanes.

******The system is not a substitute for your own visual assessment before changing lanes. Blind Spot Information System may not detect all objects behind or to the side of a vehicle and may not detect a given object; system accuracy will vary based on weather, size of object, and speed. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

*******Always visually confirm that it is safe to drive before backing up, as the Cross Traffic Monitor may not provide complete information about conditions at the rear of your vehicle. Monitor cannot detect all objects behind or to the side of a vehicle and may not detect a given object; system accuracy will vary based on weather, size of object, and speed. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
